The Bill Zito Scholarship, established by PMMI member company Enercon Industries Corporation (Menomonee Falls, Wisc. ) and administered by the PMMI Education & Training Foundation has been awarded to two third-year packaging students: Anthony Abts, University of Wisconsin—Stout and William Wooi, Clemson University.
Enercon created the scholarship in late 2010 as a way to recognize the induction of Bill Zito, Enercon Industries Vice President for Sales, into the Packaging Hall of Fame that year.
Zito is known for his ongoing advocacy for the use of induction sealing, which began in the wake of the Tylenol tampering incident of the early 1980s and continues today.
“Bill is an outstanding innovator in packaging, and this scholarship recognizes those students who might continue his legacy as future industry leaders,” said Maria Ferrante, vice president of education and workforce development.
The award was created for third-year students majoring in packaging engineering or a related area, and is presented on the basis of academic excellence, faculty recommendation, extra-curricular involvement and professional goals.
