Prime Advantage Helps Members Avoid Freight Rate Increases

July 28th, 2011 · No Comments · Connections

On August 1st, UPS Freight and ABF Freight will implement a rate increase rate increase of 6.9 percent for all non-contractual shipments in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. It also applies to minimum charge, LTL rates, and accessorial charges.

“This will make three rate increases in 19 months, something we haven’t seen since the 1980s,” stated Tim Walsh, Vice President at Newgistics.  “Carriers raised rates by about 6% in January of 2010, then 5.8% in October, and now it looks like LTL carriers will be taking an even bigger increase in August. And 6.9% is a bold move by UPS Freight.”

While most LTL carries are expected to follow with increases of their own, Newgistics Freight Services, the Endorsed Supplier under the Prime Advantage program, has committed to maintaining current rate, an option made possible by the program’s industry clout and pre-negotiated programs with their carriers.

In addition to lower base rates and discounts on shipments, the Newgistics program for Prime Advantage members offers deep savings on fuel as well.

“Newgistics customers will maintain the current level of fuel surcharges at 13.5 percent, compared to 32 percent – 38 percent charged by LTL carriers this year,” Walsh added.

Through the Prime Advantage-Newgistics program, PMMI Members can also access Truckload, Flatbed, Rail and Special Volume Quotes on shipments over 4 skids or over 5,000 lbs using top performing, pre-qualified carriers.
